Essential Oils for the Harvest!
Today, many people still remain unaware of the healing properties of pure essential oils.
Essential oils have been used for centuries, have gotten a bit lost when pharmaceuticals came into play, but we are now returning to the natural healing power of plants and their extracts. As the summer comes to an end, we reap the benefits of the garden, making pesto, cooking with herbs such as rosemary and sage, sprinkling peppermint into a fruit salad. When we eat these herbs we are also ingesting miniscule amounts of essential oils of these plants.
Here are some of the medicinal properties of the herbs in our gardens. Each type of essential oil has a unique chemical structure that affects how it smells, how it is absorbed, and how it is used by the body.
Basil is also known as Holy Basil as it has a big impact on the body, mind and soul. It is often used by aromatherapists when a person is dealing with a shock, like sudden death or tragic news. It helps those that are physically and mentally exhausted, as it is known for its ability to soothe and lift the spirits, alleviating the tension and helping people to find the strength within. Naturopathic doctors often use basil to treat respiratory ailments and to clear the sinuses.
Rosemary essential oil stimulates cell renewal and improves mature skin by easing the lines and wrinkles. It is often used in hair tonics as it stimulates hair growth. It is also very good for those that have acne or blemishes, as it regulates the oil balance of your skin. It’s a pick-me-up type of oil, and you can use it to help overcome fatigue, sluggishness, and to enhance mental clarity.
Peppermint is well known as a digestive aid. The leaves contain menthol, and it is well-known for its warming properties. It is great for clearing the sinuses and for the muscular system. Women with painful monthly cycles or those that suffer from menopause can use peppermint safely. It is a refreshing and uplifting oil that is often used for nervous tension.
You can use these oils to clean your home, clean the air of bacteria and viruses, and to contribute to your intention to live a healthy life. Your family, pets and you will benefit from using essential oils and incorporating them into your home life on a daily basis!
